Mark the area that you wish to dig. Water the area until it is soft enough to dig two to four feet deep Leave some areas six inches to one foot deep, as a shelf, for bog plants Rake the area until you have a smooth base to lay your plastic liner
Laying down the liner
Cut a piece of liner big enough to overlap the pond by one foot Lay the plastic liner over the pond and make the bottom of the pond as flat as possible Fill the pond with two or three inches of water. Try to remove any wrinkles in the sides of the liner Slowly fill the pond keeping the sides pulled tight Allow the water to stretch the liner to the contours of the pond. Fill the pond to the very top and pour sand around the overlapping liner
Laying down flagstone
Pour a base of cement around two inches thick and as wide as the flagstone Slowly work each stone into the cement
Putting the fish in the pond
Dechlorinate the water Aerate the pond by installing a fountain or waterfall Place test fish in the pond (inexpensive feeder fish) Wait two days to insure the pond is safe Release fish
